The Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost – Tone Five
Resurrectional Troparion, Tone 5.
O ye faithful, let us hymn and worship the Word, Who with the Father and the Spirit is without beginning, and Who was born of the Virgin for our salvation; for He was pleased to ascend the Cross in the flesh, and to endure death, and to raise the dead at His glorious Resurrection.
Glory.
Resurrectional Kontakion, Tone 5.
Thou didst descend into Hades, O my Saviour, and having shattered its gates as the All-powerful One, Thou didst raise up the dead together with Thyself, as the Creator. And Thou didst break the sting of death, and Adam was delivered from the curse, O Thou Who lovest mankind; therefore, we all cry out: Save us, O Lord.
Now and ever.
Theotokion, Tone 5.
Rejoice, thou impassable gate of the Lord. Rejoice, O rampart and shelter for them that flee to thee. Rejoice, haven untouched by storms. O thou who knewest not wedlock, and who barest in the flesh thy Creator and God: Disdain not to offer prayers for them that praise and worship Him Who was born of thee.
Prokeimenon, Tone 5.
Psalm 11:8, 2.
Thou, O Lord, wilt preserve us: and keep us from this generation for ever.
Verse: Save me, O Lord, for there is now no saint.
The Lesson of the Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Galatians.
Galatians §215a (6:11-18).
Brethren: See what a letter I have written to you with my own hand. For as many as desire to please in the flesh, they constrain you to be circumcised, only that they may not suffer the persecution of the Cross of Christ. For neither they themselves who are circumcised, keep the law; but they will have you to be circumcised, that they may glory in your flesh. But God forbid that I should glory, save in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ; by Whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. And whosoever shall follow this rule, peace on them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God. From henceforth let no man be troublesome to me; for I bear the marks of the Lord Jesus in my body. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.
Alleluia, Tone 5.
Psalm 88:2, 3.
Alleluia.
Verse 1: The mercies of the Lord I will sing for ever. I will shew forth Thy truth with my mouth to generation and generation.
Alleluia.
Verse 2: For Thou hast said: Mercy shall be built up for ever in the heavens: Thy truth shall be prepared in them.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
The Lesson of the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke.
Saint Luke §83 (16:19-31).
The Lord spoke this parable: There was a certain rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen; and feasted sumptuously every day. And there was a certain beggar, named Lazarus, who lay at his gate, full of sores, desiring to be filled with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table, and no one did give him; moreover the dogs came, and licked his sores. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom. And the rich man also died: and he was buried in hell. And lifting up his eyes when he was in torments, he saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom: and he cried, and said: Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, to cool my tongue: for I am tormented in this flame. And Abraham said to him: Son, remember that thou didst receive good things in thy lifetime, and likewise Lazarus evil things, but now he is comforted; and thou art tormented. And besides all this, between us and you, there is fixed a great chaos: so that they who would pass from hence to you, cannot, nor from thence come hither. And he said: Then, father, I beseech thee, that thou wouldst send him to my father’s house, for I have five brethren, that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torments. And Abraham said to him: They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. But he said: No, father Abraham: but if one went to them from the dead, they will do penance. And he said to him: If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they believe, if one rise again from the dead.
Communion.
Psalm 148:1.
Praise ye the Lord from the heavens: praise ye Him in the high places. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
