Psalm 101

The Prayer of the Poor When He Shall Be Anxious and Shall Make His Petition Before Our Lord.

Lord hear my prayer: and let my cry come to thee. Turn not away thy face from me: in what day soever I am in tribulation, incline thine ear to me. In what day soever I shall invocate thee, hear me speedily. Because my days have vanished as smoke: and my bones are withered as a dry burnt firebrand. I am strucken as grass, and my heart is withered: because I have forgotten to eat my bread. For the voice of my groaning, my bone hath cleaved to my flesh. I am become like a pelican of the wilderness: I am become as a night crow in the house. I have watched, and am become as a sparrow solitary in the house-top. All the day did mine enemies upbraid me: and they that praised me sware against me. Because I did eat ashes as bread, & mingled my drink with weeping. At the face of thy wrath and indignation: because lifting me up thou hast thrown me down. My days have declined as a shadow: and I am withered as grass. But thou O Lord endurest for ever: and thy memorial in generation and generation. Thou rising up shalt have mercy on Sion: because it is time to have mercy on it, because the time cometh. Because the stones thereof have pleased thy servants: and they shall have pity on the earth thereof. And the Gentiles shall fear thy name O Lord, and all the kings of the earth thy glory. Because our Lord hath built Sion: and he shall be seen in his glory. He hath had respect to the prayer of the humble: and he hath not despised their petition. Let these things be written unto another generation: and the people that shall be created shall praise our Lord. Because he hath looked forth from his high holy place: our Lord from heaven hath looked upon the earth. That he might hear the groanings of the fettered: that he might loose the children of them that are slain: That they may shew forth the name of our Lord in Sion: and his praise in Jerusalem. In the assembling of the people together in one, and kings to serve our Lord. He answered him in the way of his strength: Shew me the fewness of my days. Call me not back in the half of my days: thy years are unto generation and generation. In the beginning, O Lord, thou didst found the earth: and the heavens are the works of thy hands. They shall perish, but thou art permanent: and they shall all wax old as a garment. And as a vesture thou shalt change them, and they shall be changed: but thou art the self-same, and thy years shall not fail. The children of thy servants shall inhabit: and their seed shall be directed for ever.

Psalm 102

To David Himself.

My soul bless thou our Lord: and all things, that are within me, his holy name. My soul bless thou our Lord: and forget not all his retributions. Who is propitious to all thine iniquities: who healeth all thine infirmities. Who redeemeth thy life from deadly falling: who crowneth thee in mercy and commiserations. Who replenisheth thy desire in good things: thy youth shall be renewed as the eagle’s. Our Lord doth mercies: and judgment to all that suffer wrong. He made his ways known to Moyses, his wills to the children of Israel. Our Lord is pitiful, and merciful: long suffering, and very merciful. He will not be angry always: neither will he threaten for ever. He hath not done to us according to our sins: neither according to our iniquities hath he rewarded us. For according to the height of heaven from the earth: hath he strengthened his mercy upon them that fear him. As far as the East is distant from the West: hath he made our iniquities far from us. As a father hath compassion of his children, so hath our Lord compassion on them that fear him: because he hath known our making. He remembered that we are dust: man, his days are as grass, as the flower of the field, so shall he flourish. Because the spirit shall pass in him, and he shall not stand: and he shall know his place no more. But the mercy of our Lord from everlasting, and unto everlasting upon them that fear him. And his justice is upon the children’s children, to them that keep his testament. And are mindful of his commandments to do them. Our Lord hath prepared his seat in heaven: and his Kingdom shall have dominion over all. Bless our Lord all ye his Angels: mighty in power, doing his word, that fear the voice of his words. Bless our Lord all ye his hosts: you his ministers, that do his will. Bless ye our Lord all his works: in every place of his dominion, my soul bless thou our Lord.

Psalm 103

To David Himself.

My soul bless thou our Lord: O Lord my God thou art magnified exceedingly. Thou hast put on confession and beauty: being clothed with light as with a garment. Stretching out the heaven as a skin: which coverest the higher parts thereof with waters. Which makest the cloud for thee to ascend on: which walkest upon the wings of winds. Which makest spirits thine Angels: and thy ministers a burning fire. Which hast founded the earth upon the stability thereof: it shall not be inclined for ever and ever. The depth, as a garment, is his clothing: upon the mountains shall waters stand. At thy reprehension they shall fly: at the voice of thy thunder they shall fear. The mountains ascend: and the plain fields descend into the place, which thou hast founded for them. Thou hast set a bound, which they shall not pass over: neither shall they return to cover the earth. Which sendest forth fountains in the valleys: between the midst of mountains shall waters pass. All the beasts of the field shall drink: the wild asses shall expect in their thirst. Over them shall the fowls of the air inhabit: out of the midst of rocks they shall give forth voices. Watering the mountains from higher places: of the fruit of thy work shall the earth be filled. Bringing forth grass for beasts, and herb for the service of men. That thou mayst bring forth bread out of the earth: & wine may make the heart of man joyful. That he may make the face cheerful with oil: and bread may confirm the heart of man. The trees of the field shall be filled, and the cedars of Libanus, which he hath planted: there^ sparrows shall make their nest. The house of the heron is the leader of them: the high mountains for harts: the rock a refuge for the Irchins. He made the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down. Thou didst appoint darkness, and night was made: in it shall all the beasts of the wood pass. The whelps of lions roaring, to raven, and to seek of God meat for themselves. The sun is risen, & they are gathered together: and in their couches they shall be placed. Man shall go forth to his work: and to his working until evening. How magnified are thy works, O Lord! Thou hast made all things in wisdom: the earth is filled with thy possession. This great sea, and very large, there are creeping beasts, whereof there is no number. Little beasts with great: there ships shall pass. This dragon, whom thou madest to delude: all expect of thee that thou give them meat in season. Thou giving unto them, they shall gather it: thou opening thy hand, all shall be filled with bounty. But thou turning away the face, they shall be troubled: thou shalt take away their spirit, and they shall fail, and shall return into their dust. Thou shalt send forth thy spirit, and they shall be created: and thou shalt renew the face of the earth. Be the glory of our Lord for ever: our Lord will rejoice in his works. Who looketh upon the earth, & maketh it to tremble: who toucheth the mountains, and they smoke. I will chant to our Lord in my life: I will sing to my God as long as I am. Let my speech be acceptable to him: but I will take delight in our Lord. Let sinners fail from the earth, and the unjust, so that they be not: my soul bless thou our Lord.

Psalm 104

Confess ye to our Lord, and invocate his name: shew forth his works among the Gentiles. Chant to him, and sing to him: tell ye all his marvelous works. Praise ye him in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek our Lord. Seek ye our Lord, and be confirmed: seek his face always. Remember ye his marvelous works, which he hath done: his wonders, and the judgments of his mouth. The seed of Abraham his servants: the children of Jacob his elect. He is the Lord our God: in all the earth are his judgments. He hath been mindful for ever of his testament; of the word which he commanded unto a thousand generations. Which he disposed to Abraham: and of his oath to Isaac. And he appointed it to Jacob for a precept: and to Israel for an eternal testament, saying: To thee will I give the land of Chanaan, the cord of your inheritance. When they were of small number, very few and sojourners thereof: And they passed from nation into nation, & from Kingdom to another people. He left not a man to hurt them: and he rebuked kings for their sake: Touch not my anointed, and toward my Prophets be not malignant. And he called a famine upon the land: and he destroyed all the strength of bread. He sent a man before them: Joseph was sold to be a servant. They humbled his feet in fetters, iron passed through his soul, until his word came. The word of our Lord inflamed him: the king sent, and loosed him; the Prince of the people, and released him. He appointed him lord of his house: and Prince of all his possession. That he might instruct his Princes as himself: and might teach his ancients wisdom. And Israel entered into Aegypt, and Jacob was a sojourner in the land of Cham. And he increased his people exceedingly: and strengthened them over their enemies. He turned their heart that they hated his people: and to work guile toward his servants. He sent Moyses his servant: Aaron himself whom he chose. He did put in them the words of his signs, and of his wonders in the Land of Cham. He sent darkness, and obscured: and did not exasperate his words. He turned their waters into blood: and killed their fishes. Their land brought forth frogs in the inner chambers of their kings. He said, and the caenomyia came: and the sciniphs in all their coasts. He made their rains hail: fire burning in their land. And he struck their vines, and their fig-trees: and he destroyed the wood of their coasts. He said, & the locust came, & the bruchus whereof there was no number. And it did eat all the grass in their land: and it did eat all the fruit of their land. And he struck every first begotten in their land: the first fruits of all their labour. And he brought them forth with gold and silver, and there was not in their tribes a feeble person. Aegypt was glad at their departure: because the fear of them lay upon them. He spread a cloud for their protection, and fire to shine unto them by night. They made petition, and the quail came: and he filled them with the bread of heaven. He divided the rock, and waters flowed: rivers ran in the dry ground. Because he was mindful of his holy word, which he had uttered to Abraham his servant. And he brought forth his people in exultation, and his elect in joy. And he gave them the countries of the Nations: and they possessed the labours of peoples: That they might keep his justifications, and seek after his law.

Trisagion

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. 3., with bows.

Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, cleanse us from our sins. O Master, forgive our iniquities. O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for Thy name’s sake.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Penitential Troparia

The enemy found me bereft of good work and wounded me with an arrow of sin. O Physician of our souls and bodies, heal the wounds of my soul. Be merciful to me, O God.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.

Not yet have I attained repentance or even tears. And so, my Saviour, I pray that before mine end that Thou may grant unto me remission of my sins that I may be saved from punishment.

Now and ever, and unto the ages of ages, Amen.

Not one who flieth to thee, O most holy Mother of God, will leave in shame. When he asketh, he will obtain the beneficial gift for which he did ask.

Lord, have mercy. 40.

In thy good and loving kindness, Lord, grant me, though I am sinful, a life without sin. Abandon me not to the council of mine enemies, and do Thou leave me not, O Lord. Rescue me from all the overwhelming passions and the burning lusts, O Lord. Extend unto me thine hand in help, O Lord, and affirm me in my reverence for Thee. Grant me tears, O Lord, and humility of heart. Grand me endurance and discretion in temptations, O Lord. Efface all ignorance within me, O Lord, as well as all indolence and obstinacy. Save me from corrupting influences, Lord, from devising evil plans. Remove forgetfulness from me, O Lord, and insensitivity and slavish thoughts. Protect me in my struggle against impurity, O Lord, and instill within me a hate for lust; let me abide in virtue and life without shame. Perfect my steps in fulfilling thy commandments, through the intercession of our Lady, the Mother of God, and all the saints. Blessed art Thou unto the ages of ages. Amen.
