First Sunday after Pentecost – The Sunday of All Saints – Tone Eight
The Lesson of the Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Hebrews.
Brethren: The saints who by faith overcame kingdoms, wrought justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, extinguished the force of fire, repelled the edge of the sword, recovered of their infirmity, were made strong in battle, turned away the camp of foreigners: women received of resurrection their dead. And others were racked, not accepting redemption, that they might find a better resurrection. And others had trial of mockeries and stripes, moreover also of bands and prisons. They were stoned, they were hewed, they were tempted, they died in the slaughter of the sword, they went about in sheep skins, in goats skins, needy, in distress, afflicted: of whom the world was not worthy. Wandering in deserts, in mountains and dens, and in caves of the earth. And all these being approved by the testimony of faith, received not the promise, God for us providing some better things, that they without us should not be consummate. And therefore we also having so great a cloud of witnesses put upon us: laying away all weight and sin that compasseth us, by patience let us run to the fight proposed unto us, looking on the Author of faith, and the Consummator Jesus, Who, joy being proposed unto him, sustained the Cross, contemning confusion, and sitteth on the right hand of the seat of God.
The Lesson of the Holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew.
St Matthew 10:32-33, 37-38; 19:27-30.
At that time: Jesus said to His disciples: Every one therefore that shall confess Me before men, I also will confess him before My Father Which is in Heaven. But he that shall deny Me before men, I also will deny him before My Father which is in Heaven. He that loveth father or mother more than Me, is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter above Me, is not worthy of Me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth Me, is not worthy of Me. Then Peter answering, said to Him, Behold we have left all things, and have followed Thee: what therefore shall we have? And Jesus said to them, Amen I say to you, that you which have followed Me, in the regeneration, when the Son of Man shall sit in the seat of His majesty, you also shall sit upon twelve seats, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And every one that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for My name’s sake: shall receive an hundred fold, and shall possess life everlasting.
