Wednesday in the Twenty-Second Week after Pentecost

The Lesson of the Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Colossians.
Colossians §259 (3:17-4:1).
Brethren: All whatsoever you do in word or in work, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him. Wives, be subject to your husbands, as it behoveth in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter towards them. Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing to the Lord. Fathers, provoke not your children to indignation, lest they be discouraged. Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not serving to the eye, as pleasing men, but in simplicity of heart, fearing God. Whatsoever you do, do it from the heart, as to the Lord, and not to men: knowing that you shall receive of the Lord the reward of inheritance. Serve ye the Lord Christ. For he that doth wrong, shall receive for that which he hath done wrongfully: and there is no respect of persons with God. Masters, do to your servants that which is just and equal: knowing that you also have a Master in heaven.

The Lesson of the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke.
Saint Luke §47 (9:44-50).
The Lord said to His disciples: Lay you up in your hearts these words, for it shall come to pass, that the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. But they understood not this word; and it was hid from them, so that they perceived it not. And they were afraid to ask Him concerning this word. And there entered a thought into them, which of them should be greater. But Jesus seeing the thoughts of their heart, took a child and set him by Him, and said to them: Whosoever shall receive this child in My name, receiveth Me; and whosoever shall receive Me, receiveth Him that sent Me. For he that is the lesser among you all, he is the greater. And John, answering, said: Master, we saw a certain man casting out devils in Thy name, and we forbade him, because he followeth not with us. And Jesus said to him: Forbid him not; for he that is not against you, is for you.
