The Theophany of Our Lord Jesus Christ

ANTIPHON I
Psalm 113:1-3,5.
When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a barbarous people.
Through the prayers of the Mother of God, O Saviour, save us.
Judea made his sanctuary, Israel his dominion.
Through the prayers of the Mother of God, O Saviour, save us.
The sea saw and fled: Jordan was turned back.
Through the prayers of the Mother of God, O Saviour, save us.
What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou didst flee: and thou, O Jordan, that thou wast turned back?
Through the prayers of the Mother of God, O Saviour, save us.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Through the prayers of the Mother of God, O Saviour, save us.

ANTIPHON II
Psalm 114:1-5.
I have loved, because the Lord will hear the voice of my prayer.
O Son of God, born of the Virgin, save us who sing to Thee: Alleluia!
Because He hath inclined His ear unto me: and in my days I will call upon Him.
O Son of God, born of the Virgin, save us who sing to Thee: Alleluia!
The sorrows of death have encompassed me: and the perils of hell have found me. I met with trouble and sorrow: and I called upon the name of the Lord.
O Son of God, born of the Virgin, save us who sing to Thee: Alleluia!
The Lord is merciful and just, and our God sheweth mercy.
O Son of God, born of the Virgin, save us who sing to Thee: Alleluia!

HYMN OF THE INCARNATION
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and the Holy Spirit; now and ever, and unto the ages of ages, Amen. O only-begotten Son and Word of God, Who art immortal, yet didst deign for our salvation to be incarnate of the holy Theotokos and ever-Virgin Mary, and without change didst become man, and wast crucified, O Christ God, trampling down death by death; Thou art One of the Holy Trinity, glorified with the Father and the Holy Spirit, save us.

ANTIPHON III
Ps. 117:1-4, sung to the Tone 1 Troparion melody.
Give praise to the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

When Thou wast baptized in the Jordan, O Lord, the worship of the Trinity was made manifest; for the voice of the Father bare witness to Thee, calling Thee His beloved Son; and the Spirit in the form of a dove confirmed the certainty of the word. O Christ our God, Who hast appeared and hast enlightened the world, glory to Thee.

Let Israel now say that he is good: that his mercy endureth for ever.

Let the house of Aaron now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

Let them that fear the Lord now say, that his mercy endureth for ever.

Entry Verse, sung according to the Tone 4 Troparion melody.
Psalm 117:26-27.
Blessed be He that cometh in the name Lord. We have blessed you out of the house of the Lord. The Lord is God, and He hath shone upon us.

Troparion, Tone 4.

Glory. Now and ever.

Kontakion, Tone 4.
Thou hast appeared today to the whole world, and Thy light, O Lord, hath been signed upon us, who with knowledge sing Thy praise. Thou hast come, Thou art made manifest, the unapproachable Light.

In place of the Trisagion.
As many have been baptised into Christ have put on Christ. Alleluia.
As many have been baptised into Christ have put on Christ. Alleluia.
As many have been baptised into Christ have put on Christ. Alleluia.
Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.
Now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Have put on Christ. Alleluia.
As many have been baptised into Christ have put on Christ. Alleluia.

Prokeimenon, Tone 4.
Psalm 117:26-27, 1.
Blessed be He that cometh in the name Lord. The Lord is God, and He hath shone upon us.
Verse: Give praise to the Lord, for He is good: for His mercy endureth for ever.

The Lesson of the Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to Titus.
Titus §302a (2:11-14, 3:4-7).
My son Titus: The grace of God our Saviour hath appeared to all men; instructing us, that, denying ungodliness and worldly desires, we should live soberly, and justly, and godly in this world, looking for the blessed hope and coming of the glory of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ, Who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity, and might cleanse to Himself a people acceptable, a pursuer of good works. But when the goodness and kindness of God our Saviour appeared: not by the works of justice, which we have done, but according to His mercy, He saved us, by the laver of regeneration, and renovation of the Holy Ghost; Whom He hath poured forth upon us abundantly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour: that, being justified by His grace, we may be heirs, according to hope of life everlasting.

Alleluia, Tone 4.
Psalm 28:1-3.
Alleluia.
Verse 1: Bring to the Lord, O ye children of God: bring to the Lord glory and honour. Alleluia.
Verse 2: The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of majesty hath thundered, the Lord is upon many waters.
Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

The Lesson of the Holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew.
Saint Matthew §6 (3:13-17).
At that time: Cometh Jesus from Galilee to the Jordan, unto John, to be baptized by him. But John stayed Him, saying: I ought to be baptized by Thee, and comest Thou to me? And Jesus answering, said to him: Suffer it to be so now. For so it becometh us to fulfill all justice. Then he suffered Him. And Jesus being baptized, forthwith came out of the water: and lo, the heavens were opened to Him: and He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming upon Him. And behold a voice from heaven, saying: This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased.

Zadostoinik.
Magnify, O my soul, Christ the King, baptized in the Jordan.
Irmos: Every tongue is at a loss how to praise thee fittingly; and even a heavenly intelligence cannot think how to hymn thee, O Theotokos. Yet, as thou art good, accept our faith, for thou knowest our divine love; for thou art the intercessor of Christians, and we magnify thee. Prostration.

Communion.
Titus 2:11.
The grace of God our Saviour hath appeared to all men. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
