Saturday of Bright Week
Antiphons as on Pascha.
In the churches bless ye God the Lord, from the fountains of Israel.
Troparion, Tone 5.
Christ is risen from the dead, trampling down death by death, and upon those in the tombs bestowing life.
Sessional Hymn, Tone 4.
Forestalling the dawn, the women came with Mary, and found the stone rolled away from the sepulcher, and heard from the angel: Why seek ye among the dead, as though He were mortal, Him Who liveth in everlasting light? Behold the grave-clothes. Go quickly and proclaim to the world that the Lord is risen and hath slain death. For He is the Son of God Who saveth mankind.
Now and ever.
Kontakion, Tone 8.
Though Thou didst descend into the grave, O Immortal One, yet didst Thou destroy the power of Hades, and didst arise as Victor, O Christ God, announcing joy to the myrrh-bearing women, and giving peace to Thine Apostles, O Thou Who dost grant resurrection to the fallen.
In place of the Trisagion, as on Pascha.
As many have been baptised into Christ…
Prokeimenon, Tone 3. Psalm 26:1.
The Lord is my light and my salvation: whom shall I fear?
Verse: The Lord is the protector of my life: of whom shall I be afraid?
The Lesson of the Acts of the Holy Apostles.
Acts §8 (3:11-16).
In those days: As the lame man was healed by Peter and John, all the people ran to them to the porch which is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering. But Peter seeing, made answer to the people: “Ye men of Israel, why wonder you at this? Or why look you upon us, as if by our strength or power we had made this man to walk? The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified His Son Jesus, Whom you indeed delivered up and denied before the face of Pilate, when he judged He should be released. But you denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you. But the Author of life you killed, Whom God hath raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. And in the faith of His name, this man, whom you have seen and known, hath His name strengthened; and the faith which is by Him, hath given this perfect soundness in the sight of you all.”
Alleluia, Tone 5. Psalm 92:1.
Verse 1: The Lord hath reigned, He is clothed with beauty: the Lord is clothed with strength, and hath girded Himself. Alleluia.
Verse 2: For He hath established the world: which shall not be moved. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
The Lesson of the Holy Gospel according to Saint John.
Saint John §11 (3:22-33).
At that time: Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea: and there He abode with them, and baptized. And John also was baptizing in Ennon near Salim; because there was much water there; and they came and were baptized. For John was not yet cast into prison. And there arose a question between some of John’s disciples and the Jews concerning purification: and they came to John, and said to him: “Rabbi, He that was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou gavest testimony, behold He baptizeth, and all men come to Him.” John answered, and said: “A man cannot receive any thing, unless it be given him from heaven. You yourselves do bear me witness, that I said, I am not Christ, but that I am sent before Him. He that hath the bride, is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth with joy because of the bridegroom’s voice. This my joy therefore is fulfilled. He must increase, but I must decrease. He that cometh from above, is above all. He that is of the earth, of the earth he is, and of the earth he speaketh. He that cometh from heaven, is above all. And what He hath seen and heard, that He testifieth: and no man receiveth His testimony. He that hath received His testimony, hath set to his seal that God is true.”
Especially for our most holy, most pure, and most blessed Lady, the Mother of God and Ever-virgin Mary.
The angel cried unto her that is full of grace: Rejoice, O pure Virgin! And again I say, rejoice! For thy Son is risen from the grave on the third day, and hath raised the dead, O ye people, be joyful!
Shine, shine, New Jerusalem, for the glory of the Lord hath shown upon thee. Exult now, and make glad, O Sion; and thou, pure Mother of God, rejoice in the rising of thy Child.
Receive the body of Christ, taste the font of immortality. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
