Tuesday in the Twenty-Second Week after Pentecost
The Lesson of the Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Colossians.
Colossians §256 (2:20-3:3).
Brethren: If you be dead with Christ from the elements of this world, why do you yet decree as though living in the world? Therefore, if you be risen with Christ, seek the things that are above; where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God: mind the things that are above, not the things that are upon the earth. For you are dead; and your life is hid with Christ in God.
The Lesson of the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke.
Saint Luke §44 (9:23-27).
The Lord said: If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whosoever will save his life, shall lose it; for he that shall lose his life for My sake, shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, and cast away himself? For he that shall be ashamed of Me and of My words, of him the Son of man shall be ashamed, when He shall come in His majesty, and that of His Father, and of the holy angels. But I tell you of a truth: There are some standing here that shall not taste death, till they see the kingdom of God.
