Saturday after the Nativity of Our Lord
I will give praise to thee, O Lord, with my whole heart: I will relate all thy wonders. Through the prayers of the Mother of God, O Saviour, save us. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen. Through the prayers of the Mother of God, O Saviour, save us.
Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord: he shall delight exceedingly in his commandments. O Son of God, born of the Virgin, save us who sing to Thee: Alleluia!
HYMN OF THE INCARNATION
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and the Holy Spirit; now and ever, and unto the ages of ages, Amen. O only-begotten Son and Word of God, Who art immortal, yet didst deign for our salvation to be incarnate of the holy Theotokos and ever-Virgin Mary, and without change didst become man, and wast crucified, O Christ God, trampling down death by death; Thou art One of the Holy Trinity, glorified with the Father and the Holy Spirit, save us.
Come let us praise the Lord with joy: let us joyfully sing to God our Saviour. O Son of God, born of the Virgin, save us who sing to Thee: Alleluia!
Troparion, Tone 4.
Thy Nativity, O Christ our God, hath shone upon the world with the light of knowledge; for thereby they who served the stars, through a star were taught to worship Thee, the Sun of righteousness, and to know Thee the Dayspring from on high. O Lord, glory to Thee.
Glory. Now and ever.
Kontakion, Tone 3.
Today the Virgin giveth birth to Him Who is above all being, and the earth offereth a cave to Him Whom no man can approach. Angels with shepherds give glory, and Magi journey with a star. For our sake is born a young Child, the pre-eternal God.
Prokeimenon, Tone 4.
Psalm 44:18, 11.
They shall remember Thy name throughout all generations.
Verse: Hearken, O daughter, and see, and incline thine ear.
The Lesson of the Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to Timothy.
I Timothy §288 (6:11b-16).
My son Timothy: Pursue justice, godliness, faith, charity, patience, mildness. Fight the good fight of faith: lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art called, and hast confessed a good confession before many witnesses. I charge thee before God, Who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, Who gave testimony under Pontius Pilate, a good confession, that thou keep the commandment without spot, blameless, unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, which in His times He shall shew Who is the Blessed and only Mighty, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, and inhabiteth light inaccessible, Whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to Whom be honour and empire everlasting. Amen.
Alleluia, Tone 8.
Psalm 131:8, 11.
Verse 1: Arise, O Lord, into Thy resting place: Thou and the ark, which Thou hast sanctified. Alleluia.
Verse 2: The Lord hath sworn truth to David: and He will not make it void. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
The Lesson of the Holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew.
Saint Matthew §46b (12:15-21).
At that time: Many people followed Jesus, and He healed them all. And He charged them that they should not make Him known. That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaias the prophet, saying: Behold My Servant Whom I have chosen, My Beloved in Whom My soul hath been well pleased. I will put My Spirit upon Him, and He shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. He shall not contend, nor cry out, neither shall any man hear His voice in the streets. The bruised reed He shall not break: and smoking flax He shall not extinguish: till He send forth judgment unto victory. And in His name the Gentiles shall hope.
Magnify, O my soul, the King Who was born in the cave.
Irmos: A strange and all-glorious mystery do I behold: the cave is heaven; the Virgin, the throne of the cherubim; the manger, the place wherein Christ God, the Infinite One, lay, Whom, chanting, we magnify.
I will take the chalice of salvation; and I will call upon the name of the Lord. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
