Saint John Chrysostom

Saint John Chrysostom

13 November

Troparion, Tone 8.
Shining forth from thy mouth like the bright rays of the dawn, thy God-given grace hath illumined the whole world. Thou didst gain for the world a treasure of now being greedy for gain, and didst show us the heights of humility. As by thy words thou instructed us, O Father John Chrysostom, beseech Christ God, that our souls may be saved.

Glory. Now and ever.

Kontakion, Tone 6.
From heaven hast thou received grace divine, and by thy lips thou dost teach all to worship the One God in Trinity. O all-blessed and godly John Chrysostom, rightly do we praise thee, for thou art a teacher revealing things divine.

Prokeimenon, Tone 1.
Psalm 48:4,2.
My mouth shall speak wisdom: and the meditation of my heart understanding.
Verse: Hear these things, all ye nations: give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world.

The Lesson of the Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Hebrews.
Hebrews §318a (7:26-8:2).
Brethren: It was fitting that we should have such a High Priest, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and made higher than the heavens; Who needeth not daily (as the other priests) to offer sacrifices first for His own sins, and then for the people’s: for this He did once, in offering Himself. For the law maketh men priests, who have infirmity: but the word of the oath, which was since the law, the Son Who is perfected for evermore. Now of the things which we have spoken, this is the sum: We have such an High Priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of majesty in the heavens, a minister of the holies, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord hath pitched, and not man.

Alleluia, Tone 2.
Psalm 36:30,31.
Alleluia.
Verse 1: The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom: and his tongue shall speak judgment. Alleluia.
Verse 2: The law of his God is in his heart, and his steps shall not be supplanted. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

The Lesson of the Holy Gospel according to Saint John.
Saint John §36 (10:9-16).
The Lord said unto the Jews coming to Him: I am the door. By Me, if any man enter in, he shall be saved: and he shall go in, and go out, and shall find pastures. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I am come that they may have life, and may have it more abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd giveth his life for his sheep. But the hireling, and he that is not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and flieth: and the wolf catcheth, and scattereth the sheep: and the hireling flieth, because he is a hireling: and he hath no care for the sheep. I am the good shepherd; and I know Mine, and Mine know Me. As the Father knoweth Me, and I know the Father: and I lay down My life for My sheep. And other sheep I have, that are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear My voice, and there shall be one fold and one shepherd.

Communion.
Psalm 111:7.
The just shall be in everlasting remembrance: he shall not fear the evil hearing. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.
