The Lesson of the Epistle of the Holy Apostle John.
I Saint John §71 (2:18-3:10a).
Little children: It is the last hour; and as you have heard that Antichrist cometh, even now there are become many Antichrists: whereby we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us. For if they had been of us, they would no doubt have remained with us; but that they may be manifest, that they are not all of us. But you have the unction from the Holy One, and know all things. I have not written to you as to them that know not the truth, but as to them that know it: and that no lie is of the truth. Who is a liar, but he who denieth that Jesus is the Christ? This is Antichrist, who denieth the Father, and the Son. Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father. He that confesseth the Son, hath the Father also. As for you, let that which you have heard from the beginning, abide in you. If that abide in you, which you have heard from the beginning, you also shall abide in the Son, and in the Father. And this is the promise which he hath promised us, life everlasting. These things have I written to you, concerning them that seduce you. And as for you, let the unction, which you have received from Him, abide in you. And you have no need that any man teach you; but as His unction teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie. And as it hath taught you, abide in Him. And now, little children, abide in Him, that when He shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be confounded by Him at His coming. If you know, that He is just, know ye, that every one also, who doth justice, is born of Him. Behold what manner of charity the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called, and should be the sons of God. Therefore the world knoweth not us, because it knew not Him. Dearly beloved, we are now the sons of God; and it hath not yet appeared what we shall be. We know, that, when He shall appear, we shall be like to Him: because we shall see Him as He is. And every one that hath this hope in Him, sanctifieth himself, as He also is holy. Whosoever committeth sin committeth also iniquity; and sin is iniquity. And you know that He appeared to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. Whosoever abideth in Him, sinneth not; and whosoever sinneth, hath not seen Him, nor known Him. Little children, let no man deceive you. He that doth justice is just, even as He is just. He that committeth sin is of the devil: for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose, the Son of God appeared, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God, committeth not sin: for His seed abideth in him, and he can not sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil.
The Lesson of the Holy Gospel according to Saint Mark.
Saint Mark §49 (11:1-11).
At that time: As Jesus drew near to Jerusalem and to Bethania at the mount of Olives, He sendeth two of his disciples, and saith to them: Go into the village that is over against you, and immediately at your coming in thither, you shall find a colt tied, upon which no man yet hath sat: loose him, and bring him. And if any man shall say to you, What are you doing? say ye that the Lord hath need of him: and immediately he will let him come hither. And going their way, they found the colt tied before the gate without, in the meeting of two ways: and they loose him. And some of them that stood there, said to them: What do you loosing the colt? Who said to them as Jesus had commanded them; and they let him go with them. And they brought the colt to Jesus; and they lay their garments on him, and He sat upon him. And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down boughs from the trees, and strewed them in the way. And they that went before and they that followed, cried, saying: Hosanna, blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord. Blessed be the kingdom of our father David that cometh: Hosanna in the highest. And He entered into Jerusalem, into the temple: and having viewed all things round about, when now the eventide was come, He went out to Bethania with the twelve.
