Friday in the Sixteenth Week after Pentecost

The Lesson of the Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Ephesians.
Ephesians §217 (1:7-17a).
Brethren: We have redemption through the blood of Christ, the remission of sins, according to the riches of His grace, which hath superabounded in us in all wisdom and prudence, that He might make known unto us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure, which He hath purposed in Him, in the dispensation of the fulness of times, to re-establish all things in Christ, that are in heaven and on earth, in Him. In whom we also are called by lot, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him who worketh all things according to the counsel of His will. That we may be unto the praise of His glory, we who before hoped Christ: in Whom you also, after you had heard the word of truth, (the gospel of your salvation;) in Whom also believing, you were signed with the Holy Spirit of promise, Who is the pledge of our inheritance, unto the redemption of acquisition, unto the praise of His glory. Wherefore I also, hearing of your faith that is in the Lord Jesus, and of your love towards all the saints, cease not to give thanks for you, making commemoration of you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and of revelation.

The Lesson of the Holy Gospel according to Saint Mark.
Saint Mark §32 (8:1-10).
At that time: There was a great multitude, and had nothing to eat. Calling His disciples together, Jesus saith to them: I have compassion on the multitude, for behold they have now been with Me three days, and have nothing to eat. And if I shall send them away fasting to their home, they will faint in the way; for some of them came from afar off. And His disciples answered Him: From whence can any one fill them here with bread in the wilderness? And He asked them: How many loaves have ye? Who said: Seven. And taking the seven loaves, giving thanks, He broke, and gave to His disciples for to set before them; and they set them before the people. And they had a few little fishes; and He blessed them, and commanded them to be set before them. And they did eat and were filled; and they took up that which was left of the fragments, seven baskets. And they that had eaten were about four thousand; and He sent them away. And immediately going up into a ship with His disciples, He came into the parts of Dalmanutha.
