Friday in the Eighteenth Week after Pentecost
The Lesson of the Epistle of the Holy Apostle Paul to the Ephesians.
Ephesians §234 (6:18-24).
Brethren: By all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the spirit; and in the same watching with all instance and supplication for all the saints: and for me, that speech may be given me, that I may open my mouth with confidence, to make known the mystery of the gospel. For which I am an ambassador in a chain, so that therein I may be bold to speak according as I ought. But that you also may know the things that concern me, and what I am doing, Tychicus, my dearest brother and faithful minister in the Lord, will make known to you all things: whom I have sent to you for this same purpose, that you may know the things concerning us, and that he may comfort your hearts. Peace be to the brethren and charity with faith, from God the Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in incorruption. Amen.
The Lesson of the Holy Gospel according to Saint Luke.
Saint Luke §14 (4:22-30).
At that time: The people wondered at the words of grace that proceeded from Jesus’ mouth, and they said: Is not this the Son of Joseph? And He said to them: Doubtless you will say to Me this similitude: Physician, heal Thyself: as great things as we have heard done in Capharnaum, do also here in Thy own country. And He said: Amen I say to you, that no prophet is accepted in his own country. In truth I say to you, there were many widows in the days of Elias in Israel, when heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there was a great famine throughout all the earth. And to none of them was Elias sent, but to Sarepta of Sidon, to a widow woman. And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet: and none of them was cleansed but Naaman the Syrian. And all they in the synagogue, hearing these things, were filled with anger. And they rose up and thrust Him out of the city; and they brought Him to the brow of the hill, whereon their city was built, that they might cast Him down headlong. But He passing through the midst of them, went His way.
